Job Title: Animal Protection & Control Dispatcher
Department: Animal Control
Classification: Full-time, non-exempt
Job Relationships: Supervised by the Chief Operating Officer
Job Summary:
Responsible for responding to citizen’s calls for Animal Protection & Control assistance and assigning requests to Officers on-duty.
Duties:
Responds to telephone calls for regarding animal rescue, public safety and the enforcement of animal ordinances
Assigns and dispatches calls to Animal Protection & Control Officers, oversees Officer location and monitors Officer safety while in the field
Assists citizens with interpretation and understanding of animal ordinances , department procedure, & responsible animal ownership
Issues animal control summons to citizens at the Humane Society.
Monitors and assigns follow-up calls to Officers
Maintains accurate logs, reports, and statistics of daily activity
Assists Chief Operating Officer and APC Supervisors with administrative duties as assigned
Responds to requests for assistance from other jurisdictions and departments as assigned
Represents the Larimer Humane Society and the contracted jurisdictions in a professional and courteous manner at all times
Promotes Society programs, services, and development
Stays abreast of current industry trends, and changes in ordinances/procedures
Keeps Chief Operating Officer informed of progress, potential conflicts

Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED; effective verbal and written communication skills; basic clerical and data entry skills and math skills; able to read and interpret ordinances, ability to prioritize duties within a busy work environment. Clear telephone speaking voice and ability to relate information to the public and officers in a concise, clear manner. Eligibility for commission as an Officer.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and citizens, ability to assess situations and identify options. Must be comfortable initiating public contact, relaying information, and providing court room testimony. Knowledge of animal breeds, behavior, and health is helpful. Ability to operate animal control equipment. Must be able write and use telephone simultaneously. Sincere interest in the mission of the Larimer Humane Society.
Work Environment/ Physical Requirements:
Work is performed in a shared office environment. Sitting, data entry, writing and answering telephones up to 10 hours a day.
